Eyeliner is an amazing beauty innovation. It helps define the eyes without making them look heavy or overdone. But there’s one big drawback, they dry out quickly, sometimes even after a few uses. Luckily, we researched and discovered that dry eyeliner never loses hope.

Reasons why your eyeliner dries easily?

Immediately after buying a new liner, you notice that your newly purchased eyeliner has dried. There are three reasons why your eyeliner dries out. Are you willing to know?

In contact with oil-based skincare products?

People are aware of skincare, so they respect skin protection before applying makeup. But fewer people know that oily eye creams or moisturizers can affect the flow of liquid liner. So keep it in mind if you have oily lids, the eye skincare products need to be fully absorbed before using the eyeliner.

In contact with powdered makeup?

We apply eyeliner likely after applying foundation and eyeshadow, which means foundation and eyeshadow could clot up tips. Your liner can smudge. So always set your makeup first before applying eyeliner.

Close the cap tightly after applying

After each use, remember to tighten the cap! Liquid liners have film former in them to extend their usage duration. The formula dries out if exposed to the air.

How to revive dried-out eyeliner?

Trust us; we understand the heartache of finding out that your favorite super-expensive eyeliner is all dried out and flaky just before your night out. At that time, you don’t have time to chuck dried eyeliner and buy a replacement. Instead, you’d save money and do it for a quick fix. Using dried-out eyeliner can be difficult to apply; thankfully, some tricks can help you revive your eyeliner. We’ll discuss a few amazing tips that can prolong the use of your items while restoring your eyeliner to liquid form practically instantly.

Grab a pen and notebook, will you?

Nine simple methods to revive faded eyeliner
  • Before using eyeliner, shake it.

Ever heard the clang of a little metal ball within your pen? Yes, which sounds like a metal ball is a water supply tank in the middle of the eyeliner. The ink is smooth but may also be dried and blocked in the groove. The tiny ball is to stir up the material of the pen. Every time you use eyeliner, you should shake it well before applying it. This little step helps the formula come out of the pen tip more easily and prevents liquid eyeliner from drying too quickly.

  • Run on the back of your hand

It is one of the most obvious (though potentially wasteful) ways. All the liners with dried-up tips can struggle to use on the eyelids. All you have to do is to smear the eyeliner’s tip on your inner wrist to heat it. You can also rub its tip on the palm of your hand. It allows it to glide more easily. An eyeliner with a brush tip allows you to be more adventurous.

Warm water is required to moisten the paper towel before running the felt tip liner over it. However, you should avoid dipping it in water because it can oversaturate the tip and make your eyeliner runny.

  • Dip it in hot water

Occasionally the formula can get gloppy in the eyeliner pen, restricting it from coming out. The eyeliner can be easily fixed by dipping it into the hot water bowl while the cap is on. Allow it to stay in hot water for a few minutes or until the liner melts.

Remove the eyeliner from the water and wipe it dry to minimize the extra moisture. Shake the liner before applying it. The formula should run smoothly. If you still need more consistency, keep the liquid eyeliner in warm water for longer.

  • Clean the tip with makeup remover

If clots are on the felt tip or brush tip, you can put makeup remover on a cotton swab and clean the liner’s tip; it should provide constant flow and help revive your dried eyeliner.

  • Add Eye drops

Eyeliners come in small containers and can easily harden. Don’t worry if your eyeliner formula is hard; there is a way to restore its consistency. You must grate the formula with pins and needles, put it back into the eyeliner pen, add some eye drops, and mix it. Lastly, thoroughly swirl the material using a toothpick or a pin. Shake it well before applying.

  • Oils for the win

A little coconut oil can revive your dry-out eyeliner. Be careful because excessive oil can cause the liner to smear, add one tiny drop at a time. We advise making holes in the mixture with a toothpick after adding your oil so the oil may mix. Attach the cap to the eyeliner, then allow it to sit overnight. It must be prepared in the morning. Please give it a quick shake before applying it.

Coconut oil is too heavy on the skin. Baby oil is a great choice. It feels light on the skin. Add a few drops of baby oil to the eyeliner and mix the ingredients thoroughly with the wand. Leave it for 12 hours, and it’s ready to apply.

  • Rehydrate the rod

If your recently purchased eyeliner is dried out, the reason could be that the tip has dried out. Trust me; you can fix it by dehydrating the liner rod. This method is used for felt-tipped liners and requires little effort but works.

It would be great if you had a pair of tweezers and removed the ink rod from the eyeliner pen tweezers. After removing the rod, drop the rod of liner in a glass of water and let it hydrate for a moment. The shaft should then be lifted out of the water and dried using a paper towel. Return the shaft to the pen, then firmly shut it.

BONUS: if you want extra hydration, add a little glycerin to the water.

  • Warm with Blow Dryer

Making use of a blow dryer is yet another heat-related technique. This method is good for pencil liners that do not draw with gentle pressure. Put the eyeliner on a towel and heat it with a blow dryer for five to ten minutes. The dryer should be about six inches away from the washer. To make the eyeliner look brand new, warm it up and sharpen the tip.

  • Change the tip for the liner

If the liner’s tip is dried out, you can take the point out of the pen with the help of the tweezers, and then you find the other point, which is brand new. Then you can insert the drypoint inside, and now you have a new point as a tip.

  • Use as a liner brush.

If your liner is dried and nothing comes out, clean it to use as a brush for makeup. You can draw fine lines for eyes and lips with it.

How to avoid your eyeliner drying out?

Here are a few simple tips to keep your eyeliner from drying out and can extend the longevity of your products.

Store it upside down

Storing your liner upside down helps keep the moisture and oils in the liner at the top. The bottom may dry out a little, but this helps keep the usable part of your liner fresh.

Sharpen Regularly

Pencil eyeliners dry out over time. Sharpening your pencil regularly can keep the product moist and remove the external layer of the tip, which repeatedly dries out. You can also rub the pencil eyeliner tip on the power towel to remove the dried-out layer.

Store at Room Temperature

Eyeliners are very sensitive to extreme temperatures. So, avoid storing them in the fridge or exposing them to direct sunlight. Freezing or melting of makeup formulas endangers their quality.

Seal Properly

Keep your eyeliner airtight. Any liquid, cream, gel, or felt eyeliner wouldn’t dry out because of it. Always fasten the lid after each application, but do not forget to restore the pencils’ caps.
